Fundraising Honor Roll

Hi, I'm Angie. I was rescued from Morro Strand State Beach on July 24 with a serious flipper injury (ouch!). I was named after one of The Marine Mammal Center’s San Luis Obispo Operations volunteers who helped with my rescue.

When I arrived at The Marine Mammal Center, I had an open and swollen wound on my left rear flipper. The veterinarians determined I had a bad infection in the bones of that flipper. If left alone, they knew the infection could spread and compromise my health even further, possibly even proving fatal. I was quickly taken into surgery and two severely broken and infected digits in my flipper were removed.

For the next week I was treated with antibiotics and pain medication. After a week the wound was still swollen and oozing, so the veterinarians feared that the bone infection was spreading and would become life threatening.

X-rays confirmed their suspicion. It was clear that my best chance for survival was for me to have a delicate, full-flipper amputation. Fortunately, The Marine Mammal Center has done successful rear-flipper amputations in the past and they know that sea lions can do very well in the wild with only one rear flipper.

I'm doing much better now, so I'm taking part in Run for the Seals! I'm looking forward to being among 1,500 runners, walkers, families, strollers, and dogs taking part in this amazing community fun run and walk in the Marin Headlands. The event supports the life-saving work of The Marine Mammal Center - a nonprofit rescue and rehabilitation center in Sausalito, CA, that cares for sick, injured and orphaned marine mammals such as seals and sea lions.

Please Help Me Reach My Fundraising Goal!

I’m helping them reach their $75,000 fundraising goal by participating in Run for the Seals and asking for support from my family and friends.

Run for the Seals is a vital fundraising event for the Center. The funds I help raise will go towards providing food and medical care for sick, injured and orphaned seals and sea lions!

  • $10 buys one yummy fish milkshake for one orphaned pup.
  • $25 buys 25lbs of fish for our hungry patients.
  • $75 buys meals and medication for one pup for one day.
  • $100 buys an admit exam for a seal or sea lion.
  • $250 buys an injured patient an x-ray!
  • $525 buys meals, medication and miracles (!) for one pup for one week.

$75,000 will really help my flippered friends get a second chance at life. Please support the seal and sea lion patients by making a donation today!

With your support, hopefully soon I will get to return to the wild!

Thank you.

About The Marine Mammal Center

The Marine Mammal Center is a rescue and rehabilitation hospital, education and research Center in Sausalito, CA, that cares for sick, injured and orphaned marine mammals like seals and sea lions. Started by three dedicated volunteers in 1975 with little more that bath tubs, kiddie pools and hearts of gold, The Marine Mammal Center has grown to become the largest marine mammal rescue and rehabilitation facility of its kind in the world, rescuing 500-1000 patients every year. In 38 years they have rescued over 18,000 animals from along 600 miles of California coastline and the state of Hawaii, where they are building a new hospital to save the critically endangered Hawaiian monk seal.

The Marine Mammal Center is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization which relies on 85% of its funding from private individuals like you and me. All proceeds from "Run for the Seals" benefit the life-saving work of the Center.

See how your donation helps by visiting their hospital and headquarters in the Marin Headlands, Sausalito, CA, or by visiting their website. The Center is open daily from 10am - 5pm (except Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day) and admission is FREE.
