A Hawaiian Monk Seal

Join us on the 2nd Sunday of each month for Marine Science Sunday - a FREE engaging ocean-inspired classroom series from our education experts.

The Hawaiian monk seal is the most endangered seal or sea lion in the United States.  With a population of only 1,100 and declining dramatically each year, we may be the last generation to see and experience this magnificent animal.  This month we celebrate Endangered Species Day with Mahalo: Meet the Hawaiian Monk seal in a fun, educational way for both kids and adults. We recommend teaming our free classroom programs at 12 pm and 2 pm with a Docent-led tour at 11am, 1pm or 3pm for a truly immersive marine mammal experience. Program Summary

  • FREE Classroom Programs: Mahalo: Meet the Hawaiian Monk Seal- 12 PM and 2 PM (1 hour sessions)

Join Adam Ratner, Visitor Programs Coordinator and animal care volunteer at The Marine Mammal Center, for an interactive presentation on the endangered Hawaiian Monk Seal and how The Marine Mammal Center is building a hospital to save them from extinction! Sessions are held in the Center's classroom at 12pm and 2pm. A great compliment to the docent-led tour!

  • Docent-led Tours* - 11:00 AM, 1:00 PM, and 3:00 PM

Learn fascinating facts about seals and sea lions from our education experts while seeing exhibits and patient viewing areas. (*Small fee applies, it helps our patients!).

Book a Docent-Led Tour!

  • Meet the Center's Founder's Pat Arrigoni and Paul Maxwell

Pat Arrigoni and and Paul Maxwell are two of the Center's founders. They will be onsite to talk about the early days and sign Pat's new book about the history of The Marine Mammal Center. It's a real treat to have them both at the Center at this event, so don't miss it!
  • Meet the Langs as they build Indra's Net

Richard and Judith Lang, the artists behind the Net Monster exhibit at The Marine Mammal Center, will be onsite creating our next new art exhibit, Indra's Net!  Visitors will have a chance to make promises and visions for the ocean that might be including in our new exhibit launching this June!
