Join us on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month for Marine Science Sunday - a FREE engaging ocean-inspired classroom series from our education experts.

This month we celebrate and highlight how researchers study marine mammals in the wild with I Spy Marine Mammals in a fun, educational way for both kids and adults. We recommend teaming our free classroom program with a Docent-led tour at 11am, 1pm or 3pm for a truly immersive marine mammal experience. Read on for more info...

Program Summary

  • FREE Classroom Programs: I Spy Marine Mammals - 12 PM and 2 PM (1 hour sessions)

Join Adam Ratner, Guest Experience Manager and animal care volunteer at The Marine Mammal Center, for an interactive presentation on how scientists track and study seals and whales across the oceans, learn how we study elusive animals like fur seals and river otters, and test your skills as a marine mammal researcher! Sessions are held in the Center's classroom at 12pm and 2pm. A great compliment to the docent-led tour!

  • Docent-led Tours* - 11:00 AM, 1:00 PM, and 3:00 PM

Learn fascinating facts about seals and sea lions from our education experts while seeing exhibits and patient viewing areas. (*Small fee applies, it helps our patients!).

Book a Docent-Led Tour!

Can't make this month's Marine Science Sunday? Test your knowledge of marine mammal research with our short quiz
(answers at the bottom of the page - no cheating now!):

  • What animal has the longest migration of any mammal?
  • How can you tell individual gray whales apart?
  • True or False: You can see wild river otters in many areas around the Bay Area
