Marine Science Sunday:
Seal and Sea Lion Superstars
The Marine Mammal Center
Sunday, December 14 and 28, 2014 10am-5pm
Join us on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month for Marine Science Sunday - a FREE engaging ocean-inspired classroom series from our education experts.
This month we wrap up 2014 with a special Marine Science Sunday highlighting our Seal and Sea Lion Superstars of 2014. In 2014, The Marine Mammal Center rescued its 4th most animals in our 40 year history, ranging from the California sea lion, to the elephant seal, to the threatened fur seal and we will focus on how our team of volunteers and veterinarians have been able to get those animals healthy and back out to their ocean home for the holidays. Docent-led tours will take you around the hospital showcasing some of the patients we are caring for and how our veterinarians are getting them better. Classroom presentations through interactive activities and multimedia will highlight our most memorable, notable, and to be honest, cutest patients of the year!
FREE Classroom Programs: Seal and Sea Lion Superstars of 2014- 12 PM and 2 PM (1 hour sessions)
With over 900 patients this year alone, there is no shortage of amazing animals and cases! We will highlight a days-old harbor seal we taught to eat fish, endangered fur seals, a new hospital in Hawaii, and how we were able to rescue hundreds of starving California sea lions that were seen down throughout California early this year. A great complement to the docent-led tour!
