Steller sea lions and Northern fur seals
with Dr. Tom Gelatt
Wednesday, May 23, 2012

Cliff Kringle: a Northern fur seal, and a successfully rehabilitated patient of The Marine Mammal Center.
Join us for an exclusive evening with Dr. Tom Gelatt, an expert in Steller sea lions and Northern fur seals. Dr. Gelatt serves as the Program Leader for the National Marine Mammal Laboratory's Alaska Ecosystems Program. His team is dedicated to the study of declining populations of marine mammals in Alaska including, notably, Steller sea lions and Northern fur seals.
In addition to the Center's more common patients, California sea lions, Northern elephant seals, and Pacific harbor seals, it has rescued Steller sea lions and Northern fur seals in need. You may recall Astro, the Steller sea lion (made famous in a children's book) or Autumn and Cliff Kringle, Northern fur seals who ended up in the Center's care last winter. Come learn more about these interesting pinnipeds, and meet a scientist renowned in his field.
